Week Two of our Fall Focus theme:  Faith and Reconciliation in the Life of Jacob.

That God cares for us comes to us as strange and curious news at times. Who would have thought that God is even mindful of us, let alone near to our strivings? Jacob is impressed with this place (Bethel) that produces such a strong sense of God’s nearness. So much so that if God will continue to care for him and his needs and even bring him back to his father’s house, then “this God will indeed be my God,” says Jacob. Jacob’s faith has its rocky beginnings but who is to say what can be accomplished by God, with even a little faith?

Genesis 28:1-5, 10-22

In the early stages of his flight from Canaan to Haran, away from family and the challenges there, Jacob has an encounter with God. In a dream, a vision suggests that God is near and that the angels of God are constantly ascending to heaven with news of Jacob’s journeys as well as descending to bring hope and encouragement for the journey ahead.
